Google Caffeine, their newest Search Engine Algorithm and Infrastructure revision, has been integrating for several weeks now. The only question is- How much more? For a prelude you can read a Blog entry (dated 11/10/09) by Google Engineer Matt Cutts:

"Caffeine will go live at one data center so that we can continue to collect data and improve the technology, but I don't expect Caffeine to go live at additional data centers until after the holidays are over."

Google is always improving user experience, but this is their first major Search Engine application change since 2006. It encompassed 'Real Time' search features and emphasizes the following four elements of user 'Search Experience':

- Accuracy: Returning SERP's (Search Engine Results pages) that match the exact information you're looking for.
- Relevancy: Ensuring that the SERP's return information that is up to date and useful.
- Efficiency: Faster search results and the ability to custom select your search options.
- Sufficiency: Offering a wider range of results to choose from by including different platforms like Social Media.

So with this important information in mind. I'm going to share with you some specific changes and improvements that I stronly believe will occur under the Caffeine implementation. Changes and improvements that every Website owner, SEO Internet Marketing firm, and Webmaster needs to be aware through 2010 and beyond. The transition should be smooth and seamless. Providing you're equipped with the correct knowledge. And willing to apply it!

1 Website Content Conquers!

Content should be relevant to a site's core theme, message, products, or services. It's also important if this content is original, or presented in an original manner. On the contrary- a website containing a jumbled mix of themes is harder to index. A hard to index site does not help create an accurate search! And accurate relevant searches are Google's primary goal. It's what keeps people dedicated to using their service. This same logic should always be applied to your visitors and target market. So think of it this way. Google's actually helping your website and business to become more prosperous.

2 Meta Title and Description Tags

Very important due to search relevancy and ease-accuracy of indexing the site. Properly formatted MTDT provide better
Search Engine Result Pages- SERP's. Better SERP's drive more organic traffic to your site! And don't forget your sub MTDT because sometimes they rank better than your primary! Once again, Google is aligned with your best interests. Why? Because if you've done searches, you realize how frustrating it is to see a list of websites or resources that don't do a very good job of describing what they offer! Don't forget your sub MTDT. They can often rank higher than your primary!

3 Site/page download an important factor- Caffeine or no Caffeine
!

Why? Slow loading sites frustrate visitors. Frustrated visitors look elsewhere for their needs. They will either back click, or close the search altogether. As such, slow loading sites are expected to return poorer rankings in the long run. So why not address the problem now? Unfortunately, the Internet's been buzzing about statements from Google engineers that "site download time won't trump relevancy". Which makes absolute sense. But examing the statement in context these same individuals have added "all things being equal". So in other words. If two sites carry equal relevancy weight but one site has obvious page speed problems Caffeine will assign higher ranking to the faster site. Which makes perfect sense from a 'user search experience' point of view and I believe foretells a sign of things to come. After all, Google's well aware that searchers have a back arrow button and aren't afraid to use it if their 'experience' involves waiting 30 seconds to see something that another site in the SERP is offering immediately. On the contrary- fast loading pages enhance user experience. They allow visitors to easily explore your website, gather information, and make an informed decision. Once again. What's good for Google is good for your website's visitors!

4 Fresh and updated text

It was requested during the Sandbox trial period that Caffeine give poorer rankings to sites that haven't been updated in quite some time. As logic will dictate, a site that hasn't had fresh content added is either out of date or has been abandoned! I think we've all experienced this phenomena. Not the most user friendly search result. An accurate user friendly search result is the goal of Google's newest algorithm and best for all of us.

5 Quality outbound links

As most up to date SEO experts will tell you. There are high quality and low quality links. Indications are that Google has been giving better weighing to high quality links for some time now. However, it's believed that High quality alone isn't the only important factor. Emphasis should, and probably will be placed, on High quality links that are relevant to the site's core subject or service. It's one thing to add a High Quality link to a site that ranks the same or higher than yours. It's a completely different matter if that site doesn't relate to what you offer. So outbound links to sites that contain content that's relevant to your site is something that should be emphasized anyway. After all, it provides the best possible user experience for both Google and your website visitors!

6 Social Media Shares Spotlight

Great news for the Social Media Experts and those who've invested in this rapidly growing industry. Google Caffeine has been slowly introducing 'Real Time' searches. Similar to the Google 'news' feature only it's like watching an online scrolling electronic billboard for Social Media sites like Twitter.com. So far this unique search feature appears randomly and under different keyword phrases. Most notably, the phrases are often related to Social Media. Which isn't just ironic, it's down right shrewd! At Irbtrax, we are experimenting with this new search feature and studying how it can best produce results for our clients.
We feel Social Media Marketing should not be viewed as a 'luxury'. In addition to SEO enhancing your website it's vitally important to make sure it's Social Media Optimized. Featuring Bookmarks is only a basic beginning. Joining Facebook or other related networking sites, offering Blogs, and providing other Social Media friendly platforms will help your website gain additional traffic. Bottom line- SoMed is here to stay. Just look at the Pepsi Refresh Project! If you aren't directly participating at least partner with professionals that are.

Site Age not a big factor: The age of your site or domain shouldn't be an important factor if you follow the above guidelines. In fact, Irbtrax recently proved this by creating a stand alone resource website. It was marketed without any coat tail affiliation or paid advertising. Relying solely on SEO enhanced techniques including all of the above. Managed to get it a United States ranking of 137,140 in a highly competitive field just 6 weeks after being indexed! And we believe this will continue to be the case when Caffeine is fully launched. Because many of their 'under the hood' changes have already been implemented.

Breaking News!
